Since the gift card is considered a method of payment, the corresponding amount for your order is only charged once it has been shipped. At the time of shipment, the gift card amount will indeed be deducted from the order and will appear on the payment confirmation email.
In the Payment Method section of your confirmation email, you will see the two payment methods that will be charged (line: Card Type).
